Welcome to foodie heaven… this is what Hanos means to me. You can find just about ANYTHING in this store. The staff at Hanos are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The last time Stijn and I went to visit Hanos, we were talking about an ingredient we could not find and one of the staff overheard, chipped in and showed us what we were looking for. Now that is customer service!
Unfortunately, Hanos is a wholesale store, meaning you can’t get in without a pass. You can only get a pass when you own your own company and are registered at the Chamber of Commerce in NL. Or, in our case, ask one of your family members (or friends) that own a company to order a pass and borrow it to you (thank you family – we still enjoy our Hanos pass). Also remember that price tags don’t include taxes yet. You pay your taxes when you are done shopping at the end, so be prepared to pay 6 to 21% tax.
I love going to Hanos because there is just so much…from foods around the world to a selection of the best non food items (pots, pans, food processors, mixers, mandolins)… we once spend 3 hours in this store.
I once found a recipe for a delicious tomatillo salsa. Where the heck do you find tomatillos you ask? At Hanos I say!
So here are a few pictures of the store:
As you can see below they have huge foreign cheese section, mjum! You can even find hard ricotta here (as opposed to the soft one in supermarkets)

And look at this beautiful collection of French fleur de sel
I am a big fan of butter, everything tastes better with butter. Luckily, Hanos is butter heaven:

And then we have the spices. They have different sorts of brands in huge containers (actually cheaper than the supermarket). This time we bought coriander seeds and fennel seeds.
And they have all sorts of dried mushrooms and jus, which are great for the winter season. You can make delicious sauces from these for pasta, but also for example a chicken forestiere.
And if you ever want to make Indian or Moroccan desserts, which often require flower waters (rose, orange blossom), they sell those as well!
They have loads more: a great fresh fish and meat department, wonderful vegetables, wine and more. I’ll be adding some pictures of those soon!
Update December 8th.
I promised an update on the fresh foods department. Below you can find some lovely pictures of their vegetables, edible flowers etc.
